Sunnen VGS-20 Seat and Guide Machine

With the Sunnen VGS-20 Seat and Guide Machine we can do highly accurate valve jobs and seat installations. A dial indicator mounted to the cutting head allows us to cut the seats to the same depth on both heads so all the valves sit the same depth in the combustion chamber. This along with facing all the valves to the same length overall as well as face to tip, will give you a head with all stems hieghts being the same and both heads in a set will be identical! This is what we call making a set of heads "Square". When everything in an engine is "Square", they run much better and much more trouble free! We're all about making engines "Square"!
We use Sunnen Carbide pilots to cut the seats with. The Carbide pilots resist flexing[unlike standard pilots] and give a seat that is much more concentric to the valve guide! The Carbide pilots are very expensive but are well worth the price when you do work like we do. We buy what it takes to do the job, not just right, but the best it can be done!
We have a wide variety of three angle cutters as well as performance radius cutters to give a truely custom job to any head we do. We don't just use the standard 3 angle cutter for every job! We determine which cutter is appropriate for the head and that will give the best performance results. We also have a wide selection of bowl hog cutters to do throating cuts with. We can open up valve pockets for bigger valves with these cutters!
When installing hard valve seats in heads, we don't just order the seat the book calls for but rather we custom pick a seat that will fit the head port the best so there is no ledge left under the seat. Most seats the book calls for will leave a big ledge under the seat. This is terrible for performance but yet we see other shops do this all the time. Here is a link to some pictures of a head someone put seats into that we had to fix! We can't believe someone would have done this but they did! Unbelievable! We pride ourselves on how meticulous we are and how we do our work. When we install hard seats, the seats will be flusk with the chamber floor and will match the inside of the port as well as possible so blending can be done easily.
